MUNNAR : Royal Retreat, Munnar: A Convenient Stay at the Gateway to the Hills

Royal Retreat, Munnar: A Convenient Stay at the Gateway to the Hills

Munnar is a destination that attracts travelers from all walks of life—nature lovers, honeymooners, adventure seekers, and families alike. Finding the right accommodation can be crucial for a seamless experience, and Royal Retreat at Kannan Devan Hills, AM Road, Near KSRTC Bus Station, Moolakadai, Munnar offers a balanced mix of comfort, accessibility, and affordability.

Location & Accessibility

Strategically situated at the entrance of Munnar town, this medium-budget hotel enjoys the advantage of being well-connected yet comfortably secluded from the town’s buzz. If you’re arriving by bus, the KSRTC station is just a stone’s throw away.

For those traveling by car, ample parking is a major plus. Given that traffic congestion in Munnar’s interiors can be frustrating, parking here and hiring an auto, taxi, or jeep for sightseeing is a smart move. The park and dam are within walking distance, making for an easy and pleasant outing.

Accommodation & Amenities

The rooms are spacious and comfortable, offering decent amenities for a budget-friendly stay. However, there are a few drawbacks to consider:

Hot water is available only during specific timings, which could be inconvenient, especially for elderly travelers in the group.

Some rooms lack windows, making the space feel claustrophobic for those who prefer natural ventilation.

The hotel’s construction uses rocks, which retains extra chill at night—you might need an extra blanket, as the one provided may not be sufficient in colder months.

Dining Options

The in-house restaurant serves a good spread of dishes, though don’t expect an elaborate multi-cuisine menu. If you’re a vegetarian, you have the option of a Jain restaurant just 1 km away. This makes it easier for guests with dietary preferences to find something suitable without much hassle.

Things to Consider

Ideal for travelers who prefer staying at the entrance of Munnar rather than in the busy town center.

Good option for those driving in, thanks to the spacious parking facility.

Great for short stays, especially if you’re using it as a base for further exploration.

Restaurant is decent, but variety is limited.

Traffic congestion in Munnar’s interiors makes hiring a jeep or auto a practical choice.

Hot water is only available at specific times, which might not be ideal for all travelers.

Some rooms have no windows, which can make the stay uncomfortable for those who prefer fresh air.

Due to stone construction, rooms can be extra chilly at night, so requesting an additional blanket is recommended.

KOLLAM – KERALA -Luxury & Serenity by the Backwaters – Fragrant Nature, Paravur (Kollam)

Luxury & Serenity by the Backwaters – Fragrant Nature, Paravur (Kollam)
🚨 Statutory Travel Advisory 🚨
This travel vlog is based on our personal experiences and observations as we explore destinations, stays, and experiences starting from Kochi. While we strive to provide accurate and honest insights, travel is subjective, and circumstances can change. Consider our recommendations as friendly advice rather than absolute truths—your experience may vary. Always check for updates, availability, and suitability before planning your trip. A Perfect Retreat for Couples & Families
The best stay of 2025 (so far!) began at Fragrant Nature, Paravur (Kollam). This idyllic resort is an ideal choice for couples and families looking for a comfortable, cozy, and self-contained getaway. Once you enter the property, you may not feel the need to step outside, as everything you need is within its serene premises.

The best time to visit is off-season when prices drop to around ₹5,500 and go up to ₹9,000 at the higher end. Peak season rates? Let’s just say they could go through the roof!

A Beautiful Property with Stunning River Views
The resort has around 32 accommodations, including:
✅ Private Villas
✅ River View Group Houses
✅ Concrete Suites Facing the Backwaters

The ambience is fantastic, with well-maintained lawns, scenic river views, and plenty of spaces to unwind.

Food & Dining – Good, But With Room for Improvement
The restaurant offers good to very good food, but there’s a lack of professionalism among the staff that occasionally surfaces. This isn’t surprising in Kerala’s unique labor environment, where hiring local staff is essential to avoid potential union-related complications. The staff is courteous, but with better training, this place could easily become a world-class resort.

If the restaurant prices feel high (and they are), keep in mind that finding a decent alternative outside requires a long drive.

Amenities & Activities
One of the biggest selling points of Fragrant Nature is its range of facilities:
🏸 Shuttle Courts
🏋️ Fully Functional AC Gym
🏓 Table Tennis Arena
🍵 Tea Counter in the Accommodation Area – Perfect for a relaxed evening walk with a cup of tea while enjoying the scenic beauty.

Alcohol is not available at the resort, but beer and wine are served. If you prefer other drinks, you can bring your own alcohol and consume it in your room only.

Accommodation & Spa Experience
🛏️ Rooms are top-notch, with excellent washrooms that match premium standards.

💆‍♂️ The Ayurveda Spa is outsourced, but it appears well-maintained. Rates go up to ₹5,400 for a full steam therapy session.

Getting There & Parking
🚗 Car parking is abundant. Even if the main parking area is full, the resort has alternative arrangements.

🚦 Caution for drivers – The approach road is quite narrow, so drive at a slow pace to avoid any mishaps.

Amenities ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ Good variety – gym, TT, shuttle court, spa
Family-Friendliness ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Perfect for families with ample space & activities
Value for Money ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ Reasonable in off-season, expensive otherwise
Overall Experience ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A top-tier resort that could be world-class with better staff training

VYPIN- KOCHI -Disappointment by the Shore – Our Stay at Palette – Edassery’s Sealine Villa, Vypin

Disappointment by the Shore – Our Stay at Palette – Edassery’s Sealine Villa, Vypin
A Promising Start That Didn’t Deliver
Our next stay took us to Palette – Edassery’s Sealine Villa Stay in Vypin, a property with great potential but poor execution. What was supposed to be a relaxing beachside stay turned into a frustrating experience due to mismanagement.

This was an unplanned stop—we arrived at 7 PM, looking for a place to stay in Vypin. With rates in the ₹4,000-₹5,000 range, we expected a decent service standard, but unfortunately, the experience fell far short.

Check-in & First Impressions
While the property itself is beautiful, the staff’s indifferent attitude was apparent from the start. They seemed disinterested and unenthusiastic, setting a poor tone for the stay. The hotel had a mix of guests, including North Indian and Tamil Nadu travelers, but the lack of proper management impacted everyone’s experience.

On a positive note, the parking facility was excellent, providing a safe and convenient space for vehicles.

Room & Facilities – Space Without Service
The rooms were spacious and well-maintained, and the bathrooms were clean, which was a saving grace. However, the property itself showed signs of neglect, with maintenance not up to the mark.

Dining Experience – Delayed & Disappointing
We opted for in-house dining, but to our surprise, it took over an hour to receive our order. The delay was understandable since only one waiter was available, but it reflected poorly on the hotel’s management.

After a good night’s sleep, we woke up to children playing in the swimming pool—a lively start to the morning. However, our mood quickly shifted when we encountered one of the worst complimentary breakfasts we’ve had in years—just bread and jam, with no other proper options.

Safety & Security Concerns
For young couples, the safety felt moderate (3 stars)—not unsafe, but also not particularly reassuring due to the lack of attentive staff presence.

Strange Check-Out Process
Adding to the odd experience, the payment was processed via Google Pay to an individual’s name rather than the hotel’s official account. This raised questions about transparency and professionalism.

Final Thoughts
Despite the excellent location, good parking, and spacious rooms, the lack of service, mismanagement, and disappointing food made this stay far from enjoyable. This property has so much potential, but unless the management steps up, it’s not worth the premium pricing.

Ambience & Atmosphere ⭐⭐⭐☆☆ Quiet at night, but lacked a welcoming feel
Safety for Young Couples ⭐⭐⭐☆☆ Not unsafe, but management was not attentive
Amenities ⭐⭐☆☆☆ Swimming pool available, but overall facilities poorly maintained
Family-Friendliness ⭐⭐⭐☆☆ The pool and space are good for families, but service issues ruin the experience
Value for Money ⭐⭐☆☆☆ Not worth the ₹4,000-₹5,000 price tag given the poor service
Overall Experience ⭐⭐☆☆☆ A place with potential, but not recommended unless the management improves
✅ Final Verdict: A great location wasted by poor management. If you’re looking for a well-run, relaxing stay in Vypin, this might not be the best choice.

KOCHI SUBURB- THIRUVAIRANIKKULAM TEMPLE -A Heritage Stay by the Periyar – Kovilakam Heritage

A Heritage Stay by the Periyar – Kovilakam Heritage

A Journey Through Time

Our first trip this year started from Kochi, passing through Aluva, and leading us to Kovilakam Heritage, a property deeply rooted in history, sitting gracefully on the banks of the Periyar River. Located near the revered Thiruvairanikkulam Temple, the place carries a charm of the past, making it an ideal stay for temple visitors.

First Impressions – A Mixed Start

However, our initial impression was unexpected. A large bar sign at the entrance greeted us, with a number of people loitering nearby. While security personnel were present, the atmosphere felt uneasy, especially for families or those looking for a serene retreat.

A Stay in an Illam – Traditional & Cozy

Once inside, we received a warm reception and were led to our small yet comfortable room, part of a traditional illam—a heritage home where Brahmin families used to live (possibly owned by the temple family). The highlight was our private balcony overlooking the Periyar, offering a beautiful and peaceful view.

Dining by the River – Comfort & Concerns

Dinner was served at the riverside restaurant, which also functioned as an executive bar. Again, the crowd made us feel somewhat out of place. The food was average, though the parotta was excellent and stood out as a must-try.

Nighttime Ambience – A Blend of Calm & Chaos

Despite the comfortable stay, the presence of a bar was evident through the night, as we could hear drunken singing in the distance. Since we understand the language, we recognized them as melodious songs from the latest movies, but for visitors from other states, this might feel more of a disturbance than entertainment.

Who is this Stay Ideal for?

Kovilakam Heritage is best suited for temple visitors coming from outside the district or state, who need a convenient and culturally rich place to stay. However, families and those looking for a quiet, alcohol-free atmosphere may need to manage expectations before booking.
